After several months of searching together with the client, we discovered this remarkable lakeside site. Perched on the edge of a rocky cliff, the site offered a rare opportunity to create a home overlooking the water. The brief was to design a private holiday retreat filled with natural light, immersed in its surroundings, and combining simplicity and elegance with contemporary comfort.

Particular attention was given to framing views of the surrounding woodland and lake, while allowing natural light to shape the atmosphere of the interior throughout the day. A particularly fortunate circumstance is the temple roof seemingly floating above the forest on the far side of the lake. The landscape design reinterprets the traditional Japanese garden through a contemporary lens, completing a tranquil and refined retreat in harmony with its natural setting.
